Target Opening: Fall 2028          Current Phase: Phase 2 - Active Construction          Funding Source: Measure N and Measure EE Bonds

Project Scope:

  • 600-Student TK-8 Campus: 85,000 square feet of modern school facilities
  • Joint-Use Recreation: 3.7-acre natural turf playing fields and a community-accessible gymnasium
  • New Public Park: Two acres dedicated to the City of Mountain View
  • Safe Traffic & Access: Internal student pickup/drop-off areas, dedicated parking, and bike path

In 2019, the Los Altos School District purchased an 11.7-acre parcel at the corner of California Street and Showers Drive in Mountain View to address long-term facility needs for a new school site, the San Antonio Campus.

The City of Mountain View joined forces with LASD, contributing funding to integrate a brand-new, 2-acre public park alongside shared-use athletic fields and a gymnasium at the site.

This modern campus is built to accommodate approximately 600 students ranging from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. The finalized footprint features dedicated classroom buildings, a vibrant Multi-Purpose Room, and state-of-the-art recreational spaces. Demolition and site prep at the California and Showers intersection officially began in May 2026, keeping the district on schedule to open this campus to students in Fall 2028.

Community Benefits: Revitalizing the Neighborhood

The new San Antonio Campus will create a welcoming, modern learning environment for students while bringing new recreational spaces and community amenities to the neighborhood.

  • A New TK-8 Campus: Modern classrooms and flexible learning spaces designed to support students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade.
  • Expanded Recreation Opportunities: New indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, including gymnasiums, fields, courts, and other spaces that can support both student programs and community use.
  • A New Public Park: Approximately two acres of the site will be developed as a public park, creating additional green space and recreational opportunities for the surrounding community.
  • Improved Access and Circulation: Site improvements are designed to support safer and more efficient arrival, dismissal, pedestrian access, and neighborhood circulation.
  • A Campus for Students and Community: Shared spaces, including the Multi-Purpose Room and recreational facilities, will provide opportunities for school activities, community programs, and gatherings.

Traffic, Utilities, and Community Safety

We recognize that building a campus of this scale creates temporary adjustments for our immediate neighbors. The Los Altos School District and our general contractor, Blach Construction, are working hand-in-hand with the City of Mountain View Public Works Department to keep disruptions to an absolute minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Noise, Dust, and Environmental Control:

  • Work strictly adheres to the City of Mountain View ordinances: Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No structural construction occurs on weekends or city holidays without special public notices.

  • Our general contractor, Blach Construction, uses a multi-layered approach to aggressively manage dust:

    • Active Misting: Water trucks continuously spray down dry soil and excavation zones throughout the day
    • Covered Hauling: All trucks transferring dirt or debris must be securely tarped before exiting the gates
    • Street Sweeping: Equipment is deployed routinely to clear any tracked dirt from California Street and Showers Drive
  • Omitting fence fabric is an intentional safety measure. On an open site, fabric windscreens act like sails during high winds. This can catch the wind and knock heavy security fencing down into public sidewalks or traffic lanes.

  • These are real-time, automated air quality sensors. They continuously measure airborne dust particles. If dust levels approach strict limits, the system sends instant alerts so crews can immediately deploy water trucks to that exact zone.

Parking, Traffic, and Deliveries:

  • All workers are required to park within the fenced construction staging area. No construction workers are permitted to use public street parking on California Street, Showers Drive, or local residential side streets.

  • Deliveries are restricted to specific city-approved construction routes. Large trucks enter via designated gates to avoid residential neighborhoods. Flag personnel will guide trucks safely into the site.

School Operations and Future Campus Life:

  • Building this new campus allows the Los Altos School District to construct a modern, walkable neighborhood campus. This strategy optimizes district footprint resources, relieves regional school traffic, and addresses local capacity needs with a high-utility, state-of-the-art facility.

  • Construction is slated for completion in Summer 2028, welcoming students for the first day of the 2028-2029 academic school year.

  • The campus features an innovative, internal multi-lane loop system designed to keep student drop-off completely off California Street and Showers Drive, eliminating neighborhood gridlock.
