In the Los Altos School District, we believe every child deserves rich, meaningful learning experiences that help them grow into capable, curious, and compassionate people. Our approach to teaching and learning is grounded in research about how children develop and thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. We work to ensure that each student learns deeply, sees purpose in their learning, and feels a strong sense of belonging.

The Curriculum & Instruction Department partners with educators, families, and the broader community to shape learning experiences that support the whole child. This includes academic programs, integrated supports, and the broader set of experiences that help students grow into engaged learners and thoughtful citizens. Everything we do is guided by the belief that learning should be active, inclusive, and connected to the world around us.

Assessment & Accountability

We use meaningful assessments and data to support student learning, guide instruction, and ensure every student is making progress. Our commitment to accountability helps us maintain high standards, monitor growth, and continuously improve outcomes across all schools. Required documents related to assessment and accountability can be found below.

  • The SARC provides families and community members with important information about each LASD school’s performance, including academic achievement, school climate, teacher qualifications, and facility conditions. Published annually, the SARC supports transparency and helps ensure all schools are accountable for providing a high-quality education to every student.

You can search for your school’s SARC at the state portal here.

  • Prop 28: Arts & Music in Schools Grant

Proposition 28 provides dedicated state funding to expand arts and music education in California public schools. In LASD, these funds support high-quality, standards-based programs in media arts, animation, game design, coding, and computer science. The grant allows us to enrich the student experience, increase access to creative opportunities, and inspire self-expression across all grade levels.

    Prop 28 Expenditure Plan 2024-25

    Prop 28 Annual Report 2023-24

  • The LCAP is LASD’s three-year plan for how we support student success. Developed with input from families, staff, students, and community members, the LCAP outlines our goals, actions, and investments to improve outcomes for all students, especially those who need it most. It reflects our commitment to equity, transparency, and continuous improvement.

    25-26 LCAP

  • The CAASPP is California’s statewide assessment system for students in grades 3–8. It measures progress in English language arts, mathematics, and science, providing valuable insights into student learning and readiness for college and career. These assessments help educators and families understand how well students are meeting grade-level standards. Student Score Reports can be found in PowerSchool under the Score Reports tab.

  • The ELPAC is the state’s assessment for students whose primary language is not English. It measures English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The results help educators support multilingual learners in gaining the language skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. Score reports for the ELPAC can be found in PowerSchool under the Score Reports tab.
