In 2019, the Los Altos School District purchased an 11.7-acre parcel at the corner of California Street and Showers Drive to address long-term facility needs for a new school site, the San Antonio Campus.

The City of Mountain View joined forces with LASD, contributing funding to integrate a brand-new, 2-acre public park alongside shared-use athletic fields and a gymnasium at the site. This modern campus is built to accommodate approximately 600 students ranging from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. The finalized footprint features dedicated classroom buildings, a vibrant Multi-Purpose Room, and state-of-the-art recreational spaces. Demolition and site prep at the California and Showers intersection officially began in May 2026, keeping the district on schedule to open this campus to students in Fall 2028.

Community Benefits: Revitalizing the Neighborhood

The construction of this campus breathes new life into an aging, underutilized commercial space. Located at the corner of California and Showers Drive, this project goes far beyond a school building to provide lasting recreational value for local families and residents:

  • State-of-the-Art K-8 Campus: Modern, high-utility classrooms serving Traditional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade students
  • Brand New 2-Acre City Park: Dedicated public green space funded and maintained in partnership with the City of Mountain View
  • Joint-Use Gymnasium & Athletic Fields: Premium indoor and outdoor sports facilities open for community recreation and youth sports leagues outside of school hours
  • Vibrant Multi-Purpose Room: A central hub engineered for student assemblies, school performances, and neighborhood civic gatherings

Traffic, Utilities, and Community Safety

We recognize that building a campus of this scale creates temporary adjustments for our immediate neighbors. The Los Altos School District and our general contractor, Blach Construction, are working hand-in-hand with the City of Mountain View Public Works Department to keep disruptions to an absolute minimum.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Controlled Site Noise: While heavy machinery is active, all work strictly adheres to city-mandated hours (Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
  • Temporary Street Utility Work: Brief, planned lane adjustments or traffic delays may occur on surrounding streets during standard utility hookup phases
  • Permitted Traffic Control Plans: Blach Construction operates under strict, city-approved traffic mitigation permits. Flagged detours, clear signage, and dedicated construction vehicle routes are actively used to protect residential side streets.
  • Pedestrian Safety Corridors: Sidewalks and bike lanes surrounding the construction zone are closely monitored and protected to keep local commuters and recreational users safe

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This project is funded through a combination of the voter-approved Measure N and Measure EE school bonds.

    • Measure N funds originally secured the property and launched the initial engineering and design phases.
    • Measure EE funds provide the final capital required to complete campus construction.

By California law, both sources are strictly restricted to facility infrastructure, property acquisition, and construction. Absolutely no funds can be diverted to administrative salaries or everyday classroom operational budgets.

  • Building this new campus allows the Los Altos School District to construct a modern, walkable neighborhood campus. This strategy optimizes district footprint resources, relieves regional school traffic, and addresses local capacity needs with a high-utility, state-of-the-art facility.

  • Construction is slated for completion in Summer 2028. We anticipate welcoming our very first class of students on the first day of the 2028-2029 academic school year.

  • We strictly enforce approved work hours of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To control dust, water trucks will continuously spray demolition debris and dry soil to keep particles from traveling into neighboring properties.
