The LASD Special Education team is committed to providing individualized support that helps every student reach their full potential. Through collaborative partnerships with families, teachers, and specialists, our team ensures that students with disabilities have access to inclusive, high-quality learning experiences. From early intervention to tailored instructional strategies and related services, LASD’s special education staff fosters growth, confidence, and belonging for all learners.

If you suspect your child may have a disability, send a letter, with an original signature, to: Director of Special Education, 201 Covington Road, Los Altos, CA 94024, or contact your school site principal.
Students with suspected disabilities are offered assessment by district staff at no cost to the parent. If the student meets state eligibility criteria, an IEP [Individual Education Plan] is developed to provide special instruction (and related services if needed.) A resource specialist teacher and a speech therapist are available at each school to provide services on site during the school day. Services are provided in the least restrictive environment, in the regular classroom if possible. Students with more specialized needs may be served at another public school in the area.
Inquiries about services for school age children should be directed to the Principal at the school of attendance. Special Education service inquiries regarding three and four year olds or for students currently attending a private school, should be directed to the Special Education Department.
