GRADE LEVEL    Click the link here to determine your child's grade level for the 2025-2026 school year.

The priority registration window closed on Friday, December 20, 2024. However, new student registrations are continuously accepted for the upcoming school year.

Please Note: Every attempt will be made to place new students at their school of residence. However, due to increased and growing enrollment at certain school sites for specific grade levels, some families may be assigned to a school other than their school of residence. Therefore, please make every effort to complete your enrollment process early. If your child is overflowed to another school in the District, staff will keep your child on a waitlist and call you if space becomes available.

Actual school placement, while taking the enrollment date into consideration, is dependent on the following criteria:

    • Siblings of currently enrolled students residing in the District are considered residents of the sibling's school and will be enrolled in that school if they wish and if there is space. The currently enrolled sibling must be in attendance at the school when the new enrollee enters the school
    • Facility capacity and class size
    • Identified special education and special program needs
    • Balance of class size across the District

    Returning Overflow Process
LASD makes an effort to return overflowed students to their home school when space becomes available. District staff will keep track of the students overflowed and can update parents on the waitlist upon request. To ensure classroom stability, we do not call students back from overflow after October 31.

  • Intradistrict Open Enrollment: How It Works

Families who would like their child to attend a school other than their assigned home school may participate in our annual intradistrict open enrollment process. Here’s what to know:

    1. Schools with Available Space
Each year, the district identifies which schools have room for additional students. We post this list, along with the open enrollment application, on both the district and school websites.

    2. When to Apply
Open enrollment takes place during the first 10 school days of March.

    3. How to Apply
To be considered, families must submit an intradistrict transfer request during the open enrollment window closes.

    4. If More Families Apply Than There Are Spaces
After applying district priorities (as described in Board policy), if a school receives more requests than available spots, we hold a lottery.

    • Families not selected in the lottery are placed on a waiting list in the order drawn.

    • Applications submitted after the deadline cannot be added to the current year's waiting list. Late applicants will be included in the next year’s lottery.

    5. Notification of Status
We notify all applicants in writing to let them know whether their request has been approved, denied, or placed on the waiting list. If a request is denied, we explain why.

    6. Confirming Your Spot
If your transfer request is approved, you must confirm your enrollment within 10 school days to hold the space.

  • TRANSFERS INTO LOS ALTOS SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Los Altos School District (LASD) accepts interdistrict transfers for all grades TK - 8 at any time throughout the school year.

LASD does not anticipate accepting students who do not live within the district boundaries (Interdistrict Transfer) during the 2025-26 school year.  Los Altos Hills students eligible under the memorandum of understanding with Palo Alto Unified School District will be treated as LASD residents.

Here are links to the Interdistrict Transfer Board Policy and Administrative Regulations.

TRANSFERS OUT OF THE LOS ALTOS SCHOOL DISTRICT

Students living within the Los Altos School District who would like to attend school in another district will need to start the process at the District Office: 201 Covington Road, Los Altos

  • Text reads 'Tour Your Neighborhood School' with a dotted line and footprints.

If you would like to visit your neighborhood school, please contact the school office for tour dates and times and to sign up!

  • Residency Verification
Students enrolled in the Los Altos School District (LASD) must reside within district boundaries. If we receive returned mail or an anonymous tip indicating that a student may no longer live within LASD, we are obligated to follow up. This follow-up may include a renewed request for residency documentation, such as a current lease agreement, mortgage statement, or utility bill, or, in some cases, an in-person verification visit by a district staff member or hired residency investigator. A student found not to be living within the boundaries will be unenrolled from their school. The District may request verification of residency at any time.
