The Los Altos School District administers the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) every other year to students in grades 5 and 7. The survey is sponsored by the California Department of Education and is the largest statewide survey of protective factors, resiliency, and at risk behaviors in the nation. Across California, the CHKS has led to a better understanding of the relationship between student health behavior and academic performance. State policymakers and the media cite the survey as a critical component of school improvement efforts. Results help guide the development of more effective health, prevention and youth development programs. For more information visit CHKS. The survey is anonymous and confidential.
Participation is voluntary and requires parental consent. All 5th and 7th graders will receive information about consent from their schools.
