At the June 18 board meeting, the Los Altos District Board of Trustees approved a plan that will revise the elementary and junior high attendance areas effective for the 2008-09 school year.

If your child will be attending a different school in 2008-09, you will receive notification of your new school assignment the week of January 14, 2008.

As a community, we are committed to making the transition of children and families to new school sites as positive as possible. Our PTA leadership, school and district staff will begin working on transition activities for members of new communities after the first of the year.

It’s important to remember that while we need to prepare for transition during the 2007-08 school year, it should not interfere with our number one priority of providing our children with an exceptional education for this coming school year. The District, school sites and PTAs are committed to this priority. The District has every confidence that each child will receive all the support he/she needs to be successful in 2007-08 and transition to their new school in 2008-09.

A student who will be a sixth grader in 2008-09 may select to remain at his/her current school through the grandfathering process. If you have a 6th grader in 2008-09, you will receive a letter in the Spring of 2008 asking you which school your child would like to attend.

A large number of our students currently attend a school out of their resident area due to being overflowed or receiving an intradistrict agreement. Those children who have been overflowed will move in 2008-09 according to your school of residence. If you have an intradistrict transfer for 2007-08 and/or years prior, you will need to reapply in the spring of 2008.
