REGISTRATION PROCESS 2010-2011

Parent Information Meeting - January 28th

• Each elementary school will hold an informational meeting. Please contact your school of residence for times.
• To be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten for 2010-2011, a child must be five years old on or before December 2, 2010.
• Registration Packets will be available at the meeting.

Registration Period February 1 - 12

Bring to your school of residence:

1. Completed registration packet
2. Proof of your child's age
3. Child's immunization records
4. Proofs of Residency

BRING PHOTOCOPIES of the following documents:

• Proof of your child's age (one only)

- Birth Certificate

- Baptismal Certificate

- Passport

- Affidavit of parent, guardian or custodian of minor

• Three Proofs of Residency:

- ONE recent copy of your Santa Clara Tax Bill or a Mortgage statement or a copy of the lease/rental agreement in your name showing residence property address; and

- ONE recent utility bill in the sole name of the parent or guardian for the current month showing residence property address; and

- ONE of the items below in your name:

• Proof of Residency from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters; or

• Current DMV vehicle registration showing residence property address; or

• One other recent bill mailed to your residence address; or

• A canceled check in your name for the current month showing residence property address.

You will receive:

• A date for Kindergarten screening (optional, but encouraged)

PLEASE DO NOT RETURN PACKETS DURING OUR BUSIEST HOURS: 8:00-9:00am, 12:00-1:00pm or 2:00-3:00pm. Please contact your school of residence for extended office hours.

If the number of completed applications exceeds the number of available spaces projected (impacted program), a lottery will be held. A lottery will take place only at the schools with impacted programs. The lottery will be publicized and take place at the school no later than 4:00pm on March 19.

Before the First Day of School

Your child must have:

1. Immunizations to date completed
2. Mantoux tuberculin test completed
3. Physical exam completed after March 1, 2010 (Grades K-1)

Open Enrollment

The following open enrollment procedure shall apply to parents or guardians residing within the Los Altos School District who wish to enroll their child in a school in the district other than their school of residence.

1. Register your child at your school of residence.
2. Return all registration paperwork to your school of residence.
3. Request an Intra District Transfer form at the District Office (201 Covington Road). Complete the form and return it to the District Office, do not return this form to a school office.
4. Open enrollments will be granted if there is space available after all students residing in the attendance area have been enrolled.

Additional Information

• If a waiting list exists after the lottery is held at the neighborhood school, students who are registered after February 12 will be placed on the list in the order their completed applications are received.
• Following the registration period, registration numbers will be issued throughout the spring of 2010.
• The Los Altos School District intends to operate under the Kindergarten class size of no more than 24 students. After all kindergarten classes at a school are filled, additional student enrollees will be designated as "Kindergarten Overflow" and given priority for placement at the nearest school with available space.
• The Los Altos School District does not anticipate accepting kindergarten students who do not live within the Los Altos School District (Inter-District Transfer) during the 2010-11 school year.
