Summer School

Los Altos School District 2010 Summer School Information

The Los Altos School District is pleased to offer an academic summer school program as well as an English Language Learners program at the Los Altos Summer Academy. This program is for students recommended by classroom teacher, principal or ELL specialist ONLY.

The Summer Academy program provides a review of present grade level skills, preview of the next grade level skills, and prevention of loss of skills during the summer. Students will attend a language arts class for reading and writing and a math class rotation. Class sizes are small and instructed by highly qualified and dedicated teachers from the Los Altos School District and a classroom aide. Additionally, all students attend a skills based computer lab for reading and math practice, participate in daily PE, and are provided a daily nutrition/recess break. Overall, the program is a fast paced academic experience aimed at improving grade level skills in a focused, creative learning environment.

For the English Language Learners, Kindergarten through grade 3 will be self-contained; grades 4-6 in ELA or math and then ELL class. We will also offer parent classes for ELL.

The Academy will be held at Covington School. Summer School is in session from June 14th - July 9th from 8:35am to 12:35pm. There will be no school on July 5th.

Please note the following expectations of the summer school program:

  • Parent agrees to transport and pick up their student(s) on time
  • Parent agrees to have their child in attendance for the entire 19-day session
  • Parent understands that the district will ask for a $250.00 donation to make the summer program self-supporting
  • Ability to pay will have no bearing on a student's acceptance
  • Appropriate conduct is expected. The district reserves the right to determine proper conduct and dismiss a student from summer school for inappropriate behavior

The district's budget constraints make it necessary to limit the number of students attending this year's summer program. If you would like your child to attend summer school, it is important to complete and return the registration materials from the recommendation no later than April 9, 2010. After April 9th all available spots in the program will be filled in the order in which applications are received depending upon available space.
