Mission Statement

Develop confident, successful students in an optimal learning environment that builds on a tradition of academic excellence and fosters critical and creative thinking, strong character traits and a love of learning in each child.

Board Goals - 2010-11

Curriculum and Instruction

Improve instruction through the use of a student performance database

  • Train administration and faculty on how to use the database and how data guides instruction
  • Develop sustainable grade level practices for utilizing student performance data to improve teaching and learning

Develop a better understanding of differentiated instruction and Response to Intervention (RtI) for classroom use

  • Train administration and teachers on differentiated instruction strategies
  • Create a presentation on RtI to educate faculty, board and parent community

Continue implementing the new mathematics curriculum and materials

  • Implement the revision of math fact instructional strategies
  • Reorganize and administer benchmark and year-end assessments
  • Purchase and provide classroom teachers with updated and replacement materials

Personnel

Promote professional relationships and foster a positive work environment at site and district levels

  • Develop and implement a job satisfaction survey, with appropriate follow-up
  • Provide support for the new administrative team
  • Schedule periodic school site visits by the District Office Administration and the Board of Trustees

Communication and Community

Keep staff, parents and community members engaged with and committed to the district's mission of developing confident, successful students

  • Launch a new district website with appropriate links to key community, county and state sites
  • Continue publishing periodic newsletters to the community
  • Engage and inform the community about district issues as part of a parcel tax campaign
  • Engage faculty, parents and community members in the development of a district strategic plan
  • Define roles, responsibilities and selection criteria of all district committees

Finance

Establish financial policies and practices that enable the district to maintain program stability

  • Pass a parcel tax measure
  • Identify the level of reserves needed to sustain the district during economic downturns
  • Use the Compensation/Benefits Committee to evaluate and recommend possible changes to employee compensation packages

Capital and Facilities Plan

Identify short and mid-term capital needs and determine how best to address them

  • Identify resources needed to maintain aging facilities in 2010-11
  • Identify ways to use capital to reduce on-going operating costs
  • Identify components and cost of Phase 2 of our modernization program
  • Identify and estimate the cost of long-term deferred maintenance requirements
